BGYO Triumphs in First Major Solo Concert at New Frontier Theater
Ricardo Fernandez
MANILA, Philippines — BGYO, often hailed as the "Aces of P-pop," successfully headlined their inaugural solo concert last Saturday at the New Frontier Theater, creating an unforgettable experience for both the group and their supporters.
"It still feels like we're on stage, reliving the crowd's energy. We're incredibly grateful and proud of every step we've taken since the beginning," shared the group’s leader, Gelo.
The boyband’s dedicated fanbase, the ACEs, showed overwhelming support, patiently waiting four years for this moment. The concert featured an impressive LED stage design that transported the audience back to BGYO’s debut in 2021.
Opening the show with high-energy dance tracks such as "Gigil," "Trash," and "Divine," BGYO immediately set the crowd on fire. They also performed their breakthrough single "The Light," the melodic ballad "Kulay," and a medley of Sarah Geronimo hits "Tala" and "Kilometro," the latter dating to their days in Star Hunt Academy.
Each member showcased individual talents with solo performances: Gelo's sultry "Maria," Akira's flawless rendition of Nick Jonas’ "Jealous," Nate’s seductive take on Justin Timberlake’s "Sexy Back," Mikki’s cool version of Justin Bieber’s "Baby," and JL’s heartfelt cover of the OPM classic "Tibok."
A standout moment was their latest single "All These Ladies," performed alongside five female audience members serenaded onstage. BGYO also delivered fan favorites from their recent album, including the energetic "Headlines" and smooth singles "Dance with Me" and "Aloe Vera."
The nearly two-hour show concluded with the group making surprise visits to different sections of the venue, amplifying the celebratory atmosphere.
Notable attendees included members of the fellow P-pop group BINI—Jhoana, Colet, and Stacey—as well as Akira’s "Your Face Sounds Familiar" co-contestants, comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto, and singers Jarlo Base and JM dela Cerna.
Following the concert's overwhelming success and their recent nomination for Pop Song of the Year at the inaugural Filipino Music Awards for "All These Ladies," BGYO’s trajectory in the P-pop scene continues to rise.
JL captured these achievements succinctly with the hashtag: BGYO #blessed.
