Uruguay Calls for Immediate Ceasefire and Upholds Two-State Solution at UN Assembly
Theresa Ramos
During the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Uruguay’s President Yamandu Orsi called for an immediate cessation of Israel’s attacks against Palestinians, emphasizing his nation’s enduring support for a two-state resolution to the conflict. He reminded attendees that since 1948, Uruguay has consistently championed the principles of self-determination and peaceful coexistence.
"Uruguay has always stood by the concept of two states for two peoples," Orsi affirmed.
The president underscored his government's reliance on reports from the international community regarding the situation in Palestinian territories and voiced support for implementing the recommendations put forth by the United Nations. He stressed the urgency of halting military operations, protecting innocent civilians, and securing the release of hostages.
Orsi also drew attention to growing global disparities, highlighting the increasing divide between those with abundant resources and those enduring severe hardships, calling the world to acknowledge and address these inequalities.
