During a recent visit to key nuclear weapons research facilities, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un instructed that all available resources be committed to enhancing the nation’s nuclear program. According to state media reports on Saturday, Kim highlighted the imperative of refining the country’s "nuclear shield and sword" to protect national sovereignty and security.

Meeting with senior officials and scientists involved in the nuclear weapons development, Kim reaffirmed that advancing the nuclear deterrent remains the nation’s "highest priority." The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted Kim as saying that efforts must be continuously renewed to ensure the reliability of the nuclear program in safeguarding North Korea’s interests and developmental rights.

North Korea has pursued nuclear weapons for several decades, with intelligence indicating ongoing clandestine uranium enrichment activities. South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has previously estimated the country’s capability to produce up to 20 nuclear warheads annually, underscoring the persistent advancement of its arsenal.
