Heightened Security and Heavy Traffic Mark First Day of Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black

FARMINGDALE, New York – The opening day of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black was characterized by heavy traffic congestion and intensified security measures, as thousands of fans gathered on Friday to witness the prestigious golf event. Anticipation was heightened by reports that President Donald Trump might attend the competition.
Spectators encountered gridlocked roadways surrounding the expansive Long Island golf course, with many arriving well before dawn to see Europe's Jon Rahm, a two-time major champion, begin play.
Upon entry, attendees passed through an additional security checkpoint featuring a lineup of metal detectors operated by the Transportation Security Administration and the Secret Service, positioned just before the first tee.
Officials from the Secret Service informed the crowd that the screening process would take roughly 10 to 15 minutes, a delay considered minor compared to the longer waits experienced earlier this month during the U.S. Open tennis tournament in Queens, where Trump's presence also necessitated extensive security.
The atmosphere was imbued with a patriotic spirit, as fans donned red, white, and blue outfits to support the American team aiming to reclaim the Ryder Cup on home soil. Grandstands were filled hours ahead of the 7:10 a.m. Eastern Time tee-off, while European supporters stood out in blue and gold attire, waving continental flags and making their presence strongly felt despite being the visitors.
President Trump had not appeared at the venue as of Friday morning, yet the constant buzzing of helicopters overhead underscored the robust security protocols in place at the often boisterous biennial golf event.
The Ryder Cup continues to draw widespread attention, both for the high-level competition and the significant logistical and security efforts involved in hosting the international sporting spectacle.
