Bicol Dioceses Urge Public Support for Typhoon Opong Victims in Masbate
Francisco Castillo
Church authorities in the Bicol region have issued a collective appeal for public assistance to support the victims of Typhoon Opong in Masbate. The Dioceses of Legaspi, Daet, and Sorsogon have responded to the extensive damage caused by the recent storm, urging their constituents to contribute generously to relief efforts.
"By giving generously, you are directly helping our brothers and sisters in Masbate who are struggling with loss, damage, and disruption caused by the storm," stated the Diocese of Legaspi.
In response, the Dioceses of Legaspi and Daet have directed their respective parishes to conduct special collections on September 27 and 28. The funds raised will be forwarded to the Diocese of Masbate to aid in their ongoing recovery and reconstruction activities. Daet Bishop Hernando Abcede emphasized, "The proceeds of this collection will be sent to the Diocese of Masbate to assist them in their recovery and rebuilding efforts."
Additionally, the Diocese of Sorsogon has called upon the faithful, religious organizations, and parish communities to actively participate in relief initiatives. Caritas Sorsogon highlighted that the most urgent needs for the affected population include food, bottled water, shelter materials, hygiene kits, medical supplies, clothing, and footwear.
These coordinated efforts by the Bicol dioceses aim to provide immediate relief and long-term support for communities reeling from the impact of Typhoon Opong.
