Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong Resigns as Special Adviser to Independent Commission for Infrastructure
Samantha Rodriguez
Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong announced on Saturday that he has resigned from his position as special adviser to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI). He clarified that his decision was aimed at preserving the commission's credibility rather than abandoning the ongoing fight against corruption.
Magalong’s resignation follows inquiries related to a possible conflict of interest, which prompted a review of his appointment by Malacañang. In his statement, the mayor firmly denied any conflict between his responsibilities as mayor and his advisory duties at the ICI.
"To be clear, there is no conflict of interest in my role. Both my leadership in Baguio City and my advisory work with the ICI have been guided by a commitment to uphold the highest standards of integrity in public service," Magalong emphasized.
He further explained that certain recent events have cast doubts about the commission’s independence. To protect the ICI’s reputation and maintain public trust, he chose to resign from his advisory post.
Magalong reaffirmed that his resignation aligns with his dedication to good governance and ensuring that efforts to combat corruption remain transparent and untainted by any perceived conflicts.
