President Marcos Jr. Launches "One RFID, All Tollways" Project to Modernize Toll Collection Nationwide
Jose Reyes
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. formally launched the "One RFID, All Tollways" interoperability project, a strategic move aimed at unifying RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) systems across the country's major expressways including the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), and other toll networks. This initiative marks a significant milestone in improving the country’s transportation efficiency.
In his keynote statement, President Marcos emphasized the importance of efficiency, unity, and innovation in enhancing mobility nationwide. He said, "This project symbolizes our commitment to reliable connectivity and tireless innovation — One RFID, One Nation on the Move. We are building a system where travel is faster, simpler, and seamlessly connected from north to south."
The launch was the culmination of extensive coordination between the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), and private concessionaires managing various tollways. These stakeholders collaborated to harmonize different RFID platforms into a single interoperable system, eliminating the need for multiple RFID stickers and accounts.
DOTr Secretary underscored that the unified RFID system will significantly reduce congestion at toll plazas, accelerate toll collection, and simplify the travel experience for millions of motorists nationwide. The goal is to establish a nationwide-compatible toll collection system that supports the growing demand for efficient transport infrastructure.
This project is aligned with the administration’s broader vision under the Bagong Pilipinas program, which focuses on digital transformation and building a connected infrastructure backbone for the country. By integrating transportation networks through technology, the government aims to foster economic growth, reduce travel time, and improve the overall logistics framework.
President Marcos concluded by asserting that under his leadership, the administration will continue pursuing reforms that blend innovation with inclusivity, saying, "We commit to a future where infrastructure is smart and accessible, where technology drives progress for every Filipino. This interoperability project is a stepping stone toward that vision."
With the "One RFID, All Tollways" project, the Marcos administration reinforces its commitment to creating a modern, efficient, and unified transportation system that benefits all Filipinos, ensuring that the nation moves forward together with reliable and interconnected mobility solutions.
