President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. formally launched the "One RFID, All Tollways" interoperability project, a landmark initiative designed to unify the radio-frequency identification (RFID) toll collection systems across major Philippine expressways including SLEX, NLEX, and other toll networks nationwide.
At the launch, President Marcos emphasized the project's significance in enhancing transportation efficiency and fostering unity. He declared, "This milestone is not just about technology; it represents our relentless drive for reliability, unity, and innovation in how our nation moves. Through one seamless system, we demonstrate our commitment to a connected, efficient, and responsive infrastructure."
The interoperability program is the result of close coordination between the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), and private concessionaires operating the country's tollways. This partnership addresses longstanding fragmentation in toll collection, replacing multiple RFID stickers or payments with a single nationwide-compatible system.
A key goal of the initiative is to make toll collection faster and simpler, reducing traffic congestion at toll plazas and improving commuter experience. Users will now be able to pass through any participating expressway using a single RFID sticker, significantly easing inter-regional travel across Luzon and beyond.
Transportation Secretary emphasized, "By unifying RFID systems, we are making a concrete step toward the administration's vision of a digital and connected infrastructure that supports economic growth and mobility. This initiative aligns perfectly with Bagong Pilipinas' agenda of modernization and innovation."
The "One RFID, All Tollways" project is a flagship component of the Marcos administration's infrastructure blueprint, championing digital transformation to build a resilient transport network. It exemplifies the government's commitment to leveraging technology for public service efficiency and nationwide connectivity.
President Marcos concluded, "With reliable connectivity and tireless innovation, we move as one nation. This is a testament to our administration's resolve to uplift the lives of Filipinos through smart infrastructure solutions. One RFID, one nation on the move."
The rollout of the program is expected to advance traffic decongestion efforts, lower travel time, and promote seamless integration within the country's transport ecosystem under the banner of Bagong Pilipinas.
