Patricia Gomez
MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – Residents of Pangasinan have been warned to prepare for significant rainfall brought by Tropical Storm Paolo (international name Matmo) as it approaches the region. According to Weather Advisory No. 4 issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the province is expected to receive between 100 and 200 millimeters of rain from Thursday, October 2 to noon on Friday, October 3, 2025.
PAGASA Dagupan chief Jose Estrada Jr. emphasized the forecast in a phone briefing, stating, "We will experience the effect of 'Paolo' starting tomorrow, and rainfall will prevail until the weekend, even as it exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility, since it will enhance the southwest monsoon." He reminded residents, particularly those living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain vigilant and closely monitor weather updates.
As of 5 a.m. on Thursday, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised across Pangasinan, reflecting the increasing impact of the storm. Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 5 reported at 11 a.m. placed the center of the storm 575 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour. The system is moving west-northwest at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour.
The Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has placed the province under a blue alert status, signaling heightened preparedness for potential flooding and related hazards.
Officials continue to urge residents to take precautionary measures and stay informed through official channels as Paolo advances toward the region.
