Carmela Diaz
On the latest episode of "Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0," Joaquin Arce candidly discussed his deafness, revealing that he was born completely deaf in his right ear. Speaking from the Confession Room, he stated, "Never ko po naranasan na may dalawa po ‘kong tainga na nakakarinig," expressing that he has never experienced hearing from both ears.
Despite his condition, Joaquin maintains a positive perspective. He shared that he focuses on the unique qualities his deafness brings rather than any negative effects, saying, "I look at it in such a positive light that I don’t notice the negative impacts."
Growing up, Joaquin explained that his parents never treated him as if he had special needs. Instead, they fostered an environment of positivity, encouraging him to view his condition as something that makes him unique. "They didn’t treat me like I was pitiful," he added, "They enforced positivity that because of this, I am unique."
Joaquin likened his deafness to a superpower, stating, "Superpowers are what make superheroes unique. That’s what makes them superheroes and not normal people."
He also credited his condition for developing his skills as an attentive listener. "I guess I became a good listener because of that," he said.
The show's host, Kuya, thanked Joaquin for sharing his story, commenting, "This did not stop you from being a good person."
In response, Joaquin expressed gratitude: "That’s the first time in my life I heard that Kuya. Thank you very much."
Kuya further encouraged him, saying, "I am proud of what you have accomplished in your life, and I hope your brief story inspires others. You inspire me."
Earlier, actress Angel Locsin, Joaquin’s stepmother, revealed his complete deafness in the right ear and has been a continuous source of support.
"Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0" airs weeknights at 9:40 PM, Saturdays at 6:15 PM, and Sundays at 10:05 PM on GMA Network.
