The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has successfully delivered ₱7.8 million worth of humanitarian assistance to families severely affected by Tropical Depression Wilma. This operation underscores the administration of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., under the "Maasahan at Masipag" governance framework, as a reliable and compassionate force in times of calamity.

According to the DSWD, the assistance package included food packs, hygiene kits, sleeping kits, and essential non-food items distributed across the most affected communities. More than 5,000 families have received vital relief goods to help them endure the aftermath of the tropical depression.

In addition to relief distribution, the DSWD aided over 700 stranded passengers at various transit points, providing temporary shelter, meals, and psychosocial support. Evacuation efforts led by the department have successfully relocated 3,200 individuals to safer areas, preventing further casualties and ensuring their well-being amid the ongoing disaster.

"President Marcos Jr.’s leadership as the Reliable Commander of Humanitarian Relief has been pivotal," said DSWD Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire. "Our response embodies the message: "Reliable response. Tireless care. Every Filipino family must receive immediate and sufficient relief." This guidance motivates our teams nationwide to move swiftly and with compassion."

The DSWD emphasized the critical role played by its regional and field offices in coordinating evacuation, relief distribution, and passenger assistance. Strong inter-agency cooperation led to effective logistical management and rapid deployment of resources, enabling timely and efficient aid delivery.

President Marcos Jr.'s administration continues to strengthen disaster response mechanisms to uphold the welfare of displaced families. The "Maasahan at Masipag" governance approach prioritizes resiliency, speed, and heartfelt care for vulnerable communities.

"As the reliable commander, the President ensures that no Filipino is left behind during calamities," Vergeire added. "Our coordinated efforts reaffirm our commitment to serve our people with dedication and urgency."

The DSWD remains vigilant, ready to extend further assistance as Tropical Depression Wilma’s recovery operations progress.
