The late actor Chadwick Boseman, renowned for his iconic role as Black Panther, was posthumously awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during an emotionally charged ceremony held on Thursday.

The dedication event, held in the heart of Hollywood, was led by director Ryan Coogler—who helmed Boseman in the 2018 blockbuster—as well as actress Viola Davis and Boseman’s widow, Simone Ledward-Boseman.

“Today was a beautiful day,” Ledward-Boseman said. “Everyone was just so full of love and joy. And we’re all so proud of this person that we knew, that we shared.”

Coogler paid tribute to Boseman’s generosity and unwavering commitment to his craft, even as he battled colon cancer privately for four years. “Even when he knew his days were limited, and his moments were numbered, he still gave to the art form. He still threw himself into the fire,” Coogler remembered.

Boseman’s career began on stage and television before he became a celebrated film actor. His breakthrough role as T’Challa/Black Panther debuted in “Captain America: Civil War” (2016), and he later became the first Black actor to headline a Marvel franchise with the standalone “Black Panther” in 2018.

Despite his illness, Boseman remained dedicated to his performances, often performing his own stunts and participating fully in the filmmaking process. Coogler noted, “Even though he was going through what he was going through, he would do his own stunts, he would be there for off-camera dialogue readings. It was incredible.”

Actress Viola Davis, who starred alongside Boseman in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” (2020), his final film, reflected on his impact: “Chadwick’s work reminded us that we are less alone. That was Chadwick, more than just an actor who you can observe on screen doing wonderful work.”

Among those present at the ceremony were Disney CEO Bob Iger, actor Michael B. Jordan, and Boseman’s brothers, Kevin and Derrick Boseman, all paying homage to the late star’s legacy.
