MANILA – Naval forces from the Philippines, Australia, and Canada conducted a joint maritime exercise on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in the waters east of Bajo de Masinloc in the West Philippine Sea. The exercise formed part of the ongoing Amphibious Land Operation (ALON) 2025 and involved the Philippine Navy's guided missile frigate BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150), the Australian guided missile destroyer HMAS Brisbane (DDG-41), and the Canadian guided missile frigate HMCS Ville de Québec (FFH-332).

According to a statement from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the naval vessels departed from El Nido, Palawan, and sailed northward to participate in the drill. For operational security reasons, the AFP did not disclose the exact departure time or full itinerary.

The exercise encompassed two key components: an air defense drill aimed at enhancing the participants’ ability to respond to simulated aerial threats through coordinated defense tactics, and a photo exercise demonstrating precision formation sailing and the professionalism of the multinational naval units involved.

The AFP emphasized that this engagement is an integral part of Exercise ALON 2025 and serves to strengthen defense collaboration with allied nations. Over 3,600 military personnel from the Philippines, Australia, the United States, and Canada are participating in the broader multilateral exercises spanning from August 15 to 29, covering the operational areas of the AFP's Northern Luzon Command and Western Command.

This joint activity highlights ongoing efforts to deepen maritime security ties among like-minded partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
